Description

LEWISHAM HIGH STREET SE13 1. 4424 (East Side) Clock Tower TQ 3875 14/294

II 2. Erected in 1897 to celebrate Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee. Portland stone tower of 3 stages and spire. Lowest stage a plinth with round-arched doorway. Centre stage has 2 long round-arched sunk panels on each side. 3rd stage has 4 clock faces in keyed circular architraves. Octagonal angles, rising to form corner turrets with ball finials, are linked by flying buttresses to squat spire with crown on top.
