Description

The United Reformed Church Sunday School, built between 1880 and 1881 by George Sherrin, is a two-storey building located on Courthill Road. Constructed from ragstone and topped with a slate roof, it features a prominent central fleche spire and has an 'L' shaped plan with apses at both ends. The building is designed in the Perpendicular Gothic style.

On the Courthill Road elevation, there are mullion and transom windows, with two on the upper storey featuring gablets that break through the roof, and two on the ground floor. A large seven-light Perpendicular window is set into the gable end, accompanied by three small flat-arched windows below, which are divided by short buttresses. The central entrance is accentuated by a porch, and the building has three-sided apses at the west and south ends. The ground and upper floors have flat-arched mullion and transom windows, separated by full-height buttresses.

Inside, the church features an open double-height galleried hall with an apse. The timber roof is compartmented, and the galleries are supported by simple square columns. Open arcades on the east and west sides above the galleries feature shallow arches that spring from moulded and tapered piers with Flemish detail. The three-sided apse at the south end is panelled below the window.
