Description
The tomb of Alice, James, and David Jones is located in Brockley Cemetery and dates from around 1938. It was designed by Eric Gill for James Jones, who died in 1943, and Alice Jones, who died in 1937, the parents of David Jones. The tomb features a Portland stone cross with a raised border that includes the Chi Rho monogram, set on a plinth with an inscription in Roman capitals. There is also a circular plaque made of shelly limestone, possibly created by David Kindersley, commemorating David Jones CH CBE (1895-1974), who was a painter, poet, calligrapher, and pupil of Eric Gill, as well as Alice Mary Hyne (1891-1974).
