Description
The Jubilee Memorial Drinking Fountain was erected in 1897 to commemorate the 60th year of Queen Victoria’s reign, and restored in 1971. This stone and granite structure stands approximately 15 feet high and is square in shape, with chamfered edges. It features a stiffleaf moulded cornice, four steep gables with roofs carved to resemble pointed tiles, and a central octagonal shaft topped with a metal finial. An inscription on the south east gable states that it was erected by the inhabitants of Blackheath. Below this gable, on the south east face, is a profile bust of Queen Victoria set within a roundel. The north west face bears an inscription detailing the 1971 restoration. Four granite semi-circular bowls are supported by red granite colonnettes, which are topped with stone capitals moulded with stiff leaves. The fountain stands on two octagonal stone steps.
