Description

This is a terrace of three buildings, numbers 156, 158, and 160, located on Lambeth Road and dating to approximately 1800. The terrace is comprised of three storeys and a basement, with each section originally featuring three windows, although the left bay of number 158 has a three-storey, three-window canted bay projection. The buildings are constructed from stock brick and include a parapet. The windows are sash windows with replaced frames, set within gauged flat brick arches. Access is provided by five or three steps leading to the front doors, each consisting of six fielded panels, a fluted head, and a rectangular fanlight recessed within a deep reveal. Doorcases are formed of fluted Ionic pilasters, a fluted frieze, and a dentil cornice, partly obscured by fluted architraves. Original wrought iron area railings are still present. A plaque commemorating Sir Philip Ben Greet (1857-1936), an actor and manager who lived there from 1920 to 1936, is displayed on number 160.
