Description
The Church of St Peter is a church built between 1855 and 1857, designed by T Allom, with a chancel added in 1879 by Barry and Edmeston. It is constructed of stone in a Classical style. The church features a three-bay pedimented facade with giant Corinthian half columns and round-headed doors at the ground floor, with pedimented windows above. At the center, there is a two-stage western tower adorned with applied Corinthian columns, a clock, an upper octagonal stage, and a dome. The interior is galleried with a Corinthian giant order, thermal windows in the clerestory, and an arched chancel with an apse, all topped with a coffered ceiling. The church plays an important role in the planned layout of Ladbroke Grove, closing the vista of the grand Stanley Gardens.
