Description

West House is a house built between 1877 and 1878, designed by Norman Shaw for George Henry Boughton. It is now converted into flats. The house is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and some tile hanging, and has tiled roofs. It is three to four storeys high, with three main bays, the outer bays advanced as crosswings with gables—the left-hand gable has been rebuilt. A two-storey canted bay window is on the right-hand side. The entrance is to the left-hand side, with pilasters and a segmental arch; it features cut brick details. A relieving arch is above the ground floor window in the centre of the facade. The windows are mullioned and transomed. Tall chimneys are a prominent feature. An area wall is present. The return to Peel Street is also gabled. Some alterations have been made to the building. The interior has not been inspected. The house has group value.
