Description
The Duke of York's Headquarters, built in 1801 and designed by architect John Sanders, was originally the Royal Military Asylum, also known as Duke of York's School. This three-storey building features a façade that is thirteen windows wide, with the end wings being three windows wide. It is constructed of yellow brick and includes a stone pedimented Roman Doric tetrastyle portico. A stone cornice with a blocking course and a band below the balustrade can be found at the first floor. The ground floor has arched recessed windows, while the upper floor windows are topped with gauged flat arches and feature glazing bars. The return wings also have a cornice and blocking course, and there are quadrant screens on either side.
