Description

This is a detached house on Palace Green, built between 1860 and 1862 for William Makepeace Thackeray, who resided here until his death in 1863. It is recognised as one of the earliest examples of Queen Anne Revival architecture. The house is two stories high and seven windows wide, constructed of red brick with stone dressings. A central, projecting porch features rusticated piers and a balustrade topped with urns. The roofline has a balustraded parapet. The building holds group value due to its association with Thackeray.
