Description

The tomb of John Hawley, who died in 1840, and Charles Hawley, who died in 1842, is a pedestal tomb located in Kensal Green Cemetery. It features a Portland stone pedestal topped with a seated figure of an angel. Below the angel, there is a curved base adorned with a relief of a wreath of poppies, which symbolizes the sleep of death. The pedestal is also decorated with incised anthemion ornament on its eared pedimental cover. This tomb showcases good quality sculpture and represents an early example of an angel on a late Neo-classical monument.
