Description

The building comprises a row of terraced houses dating to around 1830. It is located on Eaton Place and consists of numbers 93 to 99 (the odd numbers). The houses are five storeys high with a basement and each has three windows. They are constructed of stucco. The ground floor is rusticated, featuring a Doric columned porch, a triglyph frieze, and mutules. A stucco balcony with open balustrade is situated on the first floor. French windows are present on the first floor, with architrave surrounds and pediments resting on consoles. The second and third floor windows have eared architraves, bracketed sills, and cornices. The windows on the top floor are similar in style but without cornices. A parapet with a cornice is supported by consoles. Number 99 differs slightly, with wider windows on the right side and a return elevation on the corner. The house holds historical significance as the venue for Chopin’s first concert in London, on June 23, 1848.
