Description

This is a terrace of ten houses with shops on the ground floor, and a bakery at number 46. The houses were built around 1840. They have stucco facades, and the roofs are not visible. The terrace is three storeys high, with each house originally having two windows. Numbers 46 and 48 are slightly set forward. The end houses have rusticated quoins. The ground floor now features good Victorian plate glass shop fronts. The first-floor windows have square heads, while the second-floor windows are segmental-headed with architraves. They are sash windows with small panes and glazing bars. A cornice sits above the second floor, though it is simplified on numbers 46 to 48. The bakery at number 46 contains two bread ovens, dating from around 1860/70 and 1890/1900. These ovens have shallow brick vaults, tiled floors, and cast-iron surrounds, representing a rare survival.
