Description

The Chapel of the Assumption Convent is a 1875 Gothic style building designed by Goldie. Constructed of yellow brick with red and black brick and stone trimmings, the chapel has a gable facing the square and is roofed with slate. The central gabled entrance features a pointed arch flanked by traceried windows, topped by a central rose window with plate tracery. The interior is aisleless and features a coved barrel vault constructed in timber. A triple chancel arch is supported by giant granite columns, and a tall clerestory provides additional light. The chapel contains frescos by Westlake.
