Description
Numbers 8 to 10 form a terrace of three houses built around 1828 by William Chadwell Mylne, who was Surveyor to the New River Estate. The houses are constructed of yellow stock brick in a Flemish bond, with a banded stucco ground floor and stucco dressings. They have artificial slate mansard roofs with dormers, and brick party-wall stacks. The design follows a side-hall entrance plan and features an irregular facade.
The terrace is three storeys high with a basement and attic. Number 8 has three windows on each floor, while numbers 9 and 10 each have two windows. Steps lead up to round-arched, architraved entrances; number 8 is on the left, and numbers 9 and 10 are on the right. The entrance to number 8 has attached fluted Doric columns supporting a corniced head, a plain fanlight, and a panelled door. The ground floor has round-arched sashes set in a stucco recess with a panel below; number 8 has two 1/1 sashes, and numbers 9 and 10 each have one 6/6 sash. Upper floors have 6/6 sashes set within gauged brick flat arches. A stucco sill band runs along the first floor, beneath the full-length sashes, which are set in arched recesses linked by stucco impost bands. Each window has a cast-iron balcony with a geometric and Greek fretwork pattern along the railings. A plain brick parapet is topped with stone coping. There are also well-preserved attached cast-iron railings with acorn and urn finials.
Prior to 1935, Inglebert Street was known as Upper Chadwell Street.
