Description
Numbers 3 to 6 are a terrace of four semi-detached linked villas located on a street leading into Lloyd Square from the north, built around 1833. They were designed by John Booth and his son, also named John, who were surveyors for the Lloyd Baker Estate, with another son, William Joseph Booth, serving as the architect. The villas are constructed from gold stock bricks arranged in Flemish bond, accented with stucco dressings and a stucco pediment over each pair. They feature Welsh slate gabled roofs, with number 6 obscured by a parapet, and central brick stacks. The design reflects a restrained Greek Revival style.
Each villa has a side-hall entrance plan to the outer linked bay. They are two stories tall with a basement and have three windows each, including a recessed one-window entrance bay that serves as a link. Low steps lead up to a deeply recessed stucco entrance, which is supported by antae and features an entablature. Number 3 has a 20th-century reproduction iron balcony railings above the entrance. The doorways are architraved, with number 4 sealed from within and missing exterior door hardware. The villas have architraved 6/6 sash windows throughout, except for the first-floor links, which feature various narrower chamfered sashes with gauged brick flat arches. The links for numbers 4 to 6 have been altered at the first-floor level. There is a stucco moulded storey band at the first floor and a plain stucco band beneath the pediments. The stucco parapet has a coping or blocking course above the first-floor recessed link. Attached to the villas are cast-iron railings with fir cone finials.
