Description

Numbers 1 and 2 are terraced houses built around 1789, located on Highbury Terrace in Islington. They are constructed of yellow brick in Flemish bond with stucco, and their roofs are hidden by a parapet. The houses rise two and three storeys above a basement, with each house featuring three windows in the inner three-storey section and three in a two-storey entrance wing.

The round-arched entrances have cornices, sidelights, decorative fanlights, and original panelled doors. Number 1 has impost bands adorned with palmette ornament and a head keystone made of gauged brick, while number 2 features a moulded stucco architrave with a head keystone. All windows are topped with gauged brick heads. The entrance wings include one round-arched window on the ground floor, flanked by round-arched niches. The inner wings have round-arched windows set within round-arched recesses, complete with moulded stucco springing bands. There is a stucco sill band for the first-floor windows, with the outer three windows of number 2 having iron window guards. The entrance wings have parapets, and the inner wings are topped with a cornice made of brick and stucco, along with a rebuilt parapet above. There are stacks on the party wall and end stacks. The area features railings with urn standards, spike finials, and an overthrow lampholder.
