Description
The tunnel entrance to the New River, located on the south side of Park Avenue in Wood Green, dates from the early to mid-19th century. It features a tunnel arch made of stock brick, complemented by a high parapet and curved abutments. The stone coping adds to its architectural detail. The abutments terminate in square piers topped with flat stone caps. Although the central section has been replaced with modern brick, the original tunnel arch consists of four rows of headers. The interior brickwork appears to be original, as do the river walls that extend approximately 25 feet to the south, constructed from similar brick and also featuring flat stone coping.
