Description

The Metcalf Memorial Drinking Fountain, located in Priory Park, was built around 1879. It is made of grey granite and features an octagonal base. The fountain has a round pedestal with a moulding on the underside that supports a broad basin at its mid-height. The middle section is square and decorated with trefoil designs on each face. At the top, there is a squat pyramid with chamfered edges and a shallow pyramidal cap. The base is inscribed with the words "THE GIFT OF C.T.P. METCALF 1879."
