Description
St Michael's Church of England Primary School was built in 1852 by Anthony Salvin and is designed in the Gothic style. The building features five irregular bays topped with gables of varying sizes, with the fourth bay set back. It is constructed of stock brick with stone dressings and has a high-pitched tiled roof. Some of the windows are paired lancets with cusped ogee heads, while others display reticulated tracery typical of the 14th century, and in the set-back bay, there are three grouped lancets. The door openings are pointed arched. There is a modern window that is prominently placed in the second bay from the right. The school is listed for its historic interest as an important step in primary educational planning, which involved increased government spending and a broader range of facilities than previously available.
