Description

Fulham Library, built in 1908 by Henry T Hare, is a library constructed of red brick with Portland stone dressings and features a renewed slate roof. The building has one storey plus a roof storey and a basement, measuring five windows wide. The central and outer bays are adorned with Roman Ionic three-quarter columns and pediments, with triangular pediments on the outer bays and a segmental pediment on the inner bay, all featuring cartouches in the tympana. The entrances are located in the outer bays and retain their original doors. The windows are mullioned and transomed, framed with architraves and fitted with leaded square panes. The basement windows have segmental heads with prominent key stones. A modillion eaves cornice runs along the top of the building, which has a hipped roof. There are three four-light pedimented dormers and a central timber cupola topped with a dome and finial. The area is enclosed by cast iron railings that include decorative wreaths and urns.
