Description
The Tomb of Abraham Smith, located approximately 50 metres east of the West Gate at Hammersmith Cemetery, is a tomb monument dating from around 1923, designed by C J Jordan & Son of Acton. It is made of white marble and features a tall, ornate cross atop a rubble-carved base. This base is surrounded by rectangular kerbing, with polygonal, bulbous capped finials at each corner. At the foot of the cross, there is a carved lean-to shelter that contains the figure of a gold prospector seated at a table, with a rifle resting against it. Digging tools are leaning against the exterior of the shelter. The inscription notes that "Abe Smith" was "for many years gold digger Mount Browne N.S.W."
