Description
This is a late 19th-century building constructed in an Italian Gothic style, located on Shoreditch High Street. It comprises two narrow, four-story pavilions at either end, each with three windows on the upper floors. The first floor of each pavilion features a broad, semicircular window framed by an ornamental arch. A modern shop occupies the ground floor of number 130, while number 125 retains elements of its original shop front, including pilasters. The building is constructed from red brick with stone dressings, including narrow, spiral angle pilasters, cusped pointed window arches, and mosaic inlaid stars of David at third-floor level. The parapet fronts have been altered. A three-story central section rises to two altered, pediment-like peaks, above which are two rows of pointed, cusped windows with granite shafts. The first floor features two exceptionally wide arches with moulded architraves, supported by granite pilasters extending to the ground floor. Modern shops now occupy the ground floor. An inscription in the centre of the building reads: "Contractors to H M Dockyards, Metropolitan Board of Works, Corporation of London School Board.”
