Description
Hampden Chapel is a 19th-century building, dated 1847, located on Lauriston Road. This two-storey, three-bay chapel features a classical design and faces the road. It is constructed of stucco with incised lines, and has a projecting cornice and blocking course adorned with urn finials at the corners. The ground floor showcases banded rustication, while the slightly projecting central section is defined by wide flat pilasters on the ground floor and paired Doric pilasters on the first floor, which support an entablature and pediment. The first floor includes a central Venetian window flanked by round-arched windows, all with moulded architraves. The ground floor windows and the central modernised door are also framed by a console bracketed cornice. The chapel has five-bay arcaded returns made of stock brick, with a stuccoed first floor band.
