Description
Nos 9 to 67 on Shepherdess Walk are a long, shallow crescent built in the early to mid-19th century. Each house is two storeys high with a basement and features two windows. The buildings are constructed from stock brick and have a stucco cornice and parapet, with the ground floor also stuccoed. The first floor has long sash windows with glazing bars, set in stucco-lined reveals, and these windows open onto a balcony with a cast iron railing. The ground floor has segment-headed sash windows with glazing bars in segment-arched recesses, leading up to six-panel doors that are flanked by pilasters, topped with a cornice head and a blocked fanlight. There are wrought iron handrails and area railings, the latter featuring spearhead standards and urn finials. The end houses have entrances on the returns, and some houses have added mansard roofs with dormers. Nos 9 to 67 form a group with the nearby King William IV Public House, which is of local interest.
