Description
22 Finch Lane is an office building constructed around 1855 by Thomas Hague. It features a combination of painted stone and red brick, with a design that includes five bays and four storeys. The ground and first floors are connected by thin stone piers that rise to create tall openings with rounded angles at the jambs and head. The slender appearance of the piers is enhanced by a cavetto moulding that runs around the angles and across the heads. These tall openings contain recessed windows with moulded timber mullions and a narrow transom between the two floors, giving a visual impression similar to a framed structure of cast iron. The upper storeys have architraves around the windows and are topped with a simple crowning cornice that features egg and dart enrichment on the bed mould. The return elevation to Royal Exchange Avenue has three bays that are similar in style to the main front.
