Description
No. 60 Carey Street is a house dating from the early 18th century, with later internal alterations. It is constructed of multi-coloured stock brick with red brick dressings. The building features a brick cornice below the parapet and moulded bands at the first and second floor levels. It stands three storeys high with a basement and has a double-fronted design with six windows. The wood doorcase is adorned with slender Doric columns, a triglyph frieze, and a mutule cornice. The recessed windows have red brick segmental arches and dressings, with exposed boxing, late 18th-century sash windows, and wood shutters on the ground floor. An elaborate lead rainwater head and pipe are also present.
Although the interior was not inspected, it is noted to contain paintings on the panelled soffit of the stairs, enriched architraves and doors, turned balusters with fluting and fluted column newels, scroll enrichment on the plaster walls and ceiling, and carved marble fireplaces in the ground floor back room and in the first floor front and back centre rooms.
