Description

The Seven Stars Public House, formerly known as The Log and Seven Stars Public House, is located on Carey Street in Camden. It likely dates back to the 17th century, with origins possibly traced to 1602, and has undergone later alterations and additions. The building features painted brick cladding over a partial timber frame and has a slate roof.

It stands two storeys tall with an attic and has four windows, with the one on the right being broader and set in a projecting jetty that may have originally been a separate building. The ground floor showcases a 19th-century wooden public house frontage with four windows and two entrances, flanked by pilasters, and has panelled aprons beneath the windows. The first floor has recessed sash windows with gauged brick flat arches, except for one window in the jettied bay on the right, which has a reeded, architraved surround.

Inside, there are two rooms on the ground floor. The bar backs, dating from the 19th century, feature mirrors, with the larger bar having cupboards. Both rooms have bar counters of similar age. A corner fireplace from around 1900 is located in the right-hand bar, with joinery that extends as ledges around the side walls and across the windows. The ceilings have thin beams of similar date that mask earlier framing, and there is a narrow stair to the upper floors situated behind the main bar.
