Description
Christ Church (Hampstead) War Memorial is a First World War memorial situated between the north-west corner angle buttresses of Christ Church, which is also a Grade II-listed building. The memorial is placed on a raised area of hard-standing.
It features a stone Celtic wheel-head cross with a four-sided shaft that rises from a three-stepped base. The cross-head is adorned with decorative carved knot work on the arms and a circular emboss in the center; the wheel has three circular embosses on each segment. The names of the fallen, including their rank and regiment, are inscribed on the north-west face of the shaft, with all lettering incised and painted black.
The memorial is flanked by the angle buttresses of the church and is set within a small, curved area of raised hard-standing. A band of brick kerbing topped with modern metal railings marks the north-western boundary.
