Description

Nos. 8-15 Old Square is a group of eight terraced chambers built in the 19th century. Nos. 8-10 were constructed in 1874 by Sir George Gilbert Scott, while Nos. 11-15 were built between 1878 and 1886 by J. Oldrid Scott. The buildings are designed in the Tudor style, featuring red brick with blue diaper patterns and stone dressings, and they have slate roofs topped with tall decorative brick chimney pots. Notably, No. 13 has a pyramid roof over one bay.

The ground floor has a stone plinth moulding, and the buildings rise to four storeys. The entrances are square-headed with moulded arches, and No. 15 has a lamp above it, accessed by steps with solid brick balustrades that have moulded capping. Nos. 8-13 feature moulded stone drip strings at each floor level. The windows are square-headed with transoms and mullions; Nos. 8-10 have cusped ogee tracery and cusped lancets, with some windows forming bays. No. 15 boasts enriched terracotta aprons on the first, second, and third floor windows, with geometrical tracery above the entrance. Nos. 8-11 have a cornice at the third floor, accompanied by an enriched band below. The buildings are topped with embattled parapets and gables that are capped by finials. Additionally, there are lead rainwater heads and pipes.

The interiors have not been inspected. The property also features attached cast-iron railings in front of the areas.
