Description
Number 2 and the attached railings are three terraced houses built in the early 19th century, with later alterations. The houses are finished in stucco, featuring rusticated ground floors. The facade is symmetrical, with projecting end bays and segmental bowed corners. The entrance to the former No. 6 Albany Terrace is located on the return to Albany Street.
The building stands four storeys high with basements and includes six windows, with one-window corners and six-window returns to Peto Place and Albany Street, some of which are blind. The ground floor has round-arched openings linked by impost bands. The doorways feature fanlights and panelled doors, some of which are part-glazed. There is a projecting Doric loggia at the ground floor of the central bays, topped with a balustraded parapet and urns. Continuous cast-iron balconies are present at the first floor level. The sashes are architraved and recessed, with cornices on the first floor except for the central three windows, which are in arcaded openings with shallow recesses and linked by impost bands. A main cornice is located at the third floor level, and the attic storey features round-arched openings, above which is a cornice and blocking course. The right-hand corner has a round-arched doorway with a part-glazed, panelled door and a radial patterned fanlight. The Albany Street return includes a tetrastyle Doric portico with a balustraded parapet above.
The interiors have not been inspected. The property also features attached cast-iron railings with a lattice pattern to the areas. Number 2 is listed for its group value with the Nash terraces. Former Nos 4 and 5 Albany Terrace were listed on May 14, 1974.
