Description

Number 46 is an early 18th-century house, with later 18th and 19th-century alterations, located on Well Walk in Camden. The front is faced with tuck-pointed brown brick, with timber additions, while the return elevation facing Gainsborough Gardens was refaced in red brick in 1882. The roof is a slate mansard with dormers.

The house is three storeys high, with an attic and a semi-basement, and has two windows facing the street. The central Gothick entrance has a canopy with a dentil cornice supported by clustered columns and triglyph impost blocks. Triglyphs are repeated as a frieze above the panelled front door, which is approached by steps with attached cast-iron railings. Gauged red brick flat arches frame the recessed sash windows; the first floor has a stucco sill band. The right-hand first-floor window is a wooden Gothick canted oriel of three ogee lights, with intersecting glazing in the central light and carved pilasters at the angles supporting triglyphs and an enriched frieze with a dentil cornice. Above this, a similarly enriched three-light window has a central ogee light flanked by two lancet windows.

The interior was not inspected for listing purposes. Attached cast-iron railings, with bud finials, run along a brick wall to the area and forecourt.
