Description
Numbers 32 and 34 are a pair of terraced houses located on Well Walk in Camden, dating from the early to mid-18th century, with late 19th-century projecting porches. The houses are constructed of brown brick, with grey brick porches, and rise three storeys with semi-basements. Each house features two windows and a central blind window. The round-arched doorways are adorned with keystones, fanlights, and panelled doors. There are gauged red brick flat arches above slightly recessed sashes with exposed boxing, and a parapet crowns the structure. The interiors have not been inspected.
The houses are complemented by attached cast-iron railings with bud finials, set on a low brick wall that has stone-capped gate piers and cast-iron gates. Historically, No. 32 served as a refuge for D.H. Lawrence and Frieda in 1917 after they were evicted from Cornwall due to suspicions of being spies.
