Description

Numbers 12-19 and attached railings are a group of eight terraced houses with later shops, built between 1810 and 1813 by James Burton, with construction by T Jennings. They are built of darkened stock brick, with some later patching, and stand four storeys high with cellars. Each house has two windows. Numbers 12, 13 and 19 have early 19th-century wooden projecting shopfronts, each with an entablature and large window panes. Number 19’s shopfront features reeded pilasters supporting the fascia. Each shopfront has a round-arched doorway topped with a cornice, patterned fanlights and panelled doors. Number 14 has a 20th-century reproduction of a 19th-century shopfront. Numbers 15-18 have shopfronts altered in the mid-to-late 19th century, featuring entablatures flanked by consoles. Gauged brick flat arches are above the recessed sash windows. The first floor windows of numbers 12-14 have cast-iron balconies. Number 18 has stucco architraves and console bracketed cornices on the first floor. Numbers 14-19 have a plain stucco sill band on the third floor. The buildings have parapets. The interiors have not been inspected.
