Description
Numbers 1-49 and attached railings form a terrace of 25 houses built in the mid-19th century. The houses are constructed of stucco, with the ground floors rusticated.
The houses are two storeys high. Most have two windows, except for number 49, which includes an additional recessed entrance bay. The doorways have round arches with panelled doors, keystones, and cornices that extend as a band at the first-floor level, breaking forward over the ground-floor tripartite sash windows and supported by enriched console brackets. Wide, bracketed sills are present, generally with elaborate cast-iron guards. At number 49, the doorway is square-headed, featuring a stucco doorcase with panelled pilasters, enriched console brackets supporting a cornice, a fanlight, and a panelled door. A moulded band runs at the first-floor level, continuing as a plain architrave down the sides of the ground-floor sash windows, with a wide bracketed sill and elaborate cast-iron guard. The first-floor windows are round-arched with architraved heads, nailhead keystones, margin glazing, and bracketed sills with elaborate cast-iron guards. Number 49’s first floor has lugged architraves for its four-pane sashes, with vermiculated keystones and bracketed sills featuring elaborate cast-iron guards. A cornice and blocking course are present on the majority of the houses, except for numbers 43-49, which have parapets.
The interiors were not inspected. Attached cast-iron railings are present around the areas.
