Description
A terrace of eleven houses, numbers 26 to 46 (even) and number 77 incorporating number 75, was built around 1807 by James Burton. The houses are constructed of multi-coloured stock brick with later patching, and have stucco ground floors with a plain band above. Number 40 has stuccoed first floors, and number 46 has later stucco dressings. The terrace is four storeys high with basements. Each house originally had two windows, with number 46 having a three-window return (one blind) to Marchmont Street, which is part of number 77 incorporating number 75. Round-arched doorways have reeded surrounds, cornice heads, fanlights (radial patterned at numbers 26 and 34), and panelled doors. Numbers 44 and 46 have 20th-century shop fronts. Gauged, reddened, flat brick arches feature above the recessed sash windows. The first floors have cast-iron guards, except for numbers 26 and 30 to 34, which have cast-iron balconies. There are parapets to the roofline. The interiors were not inspected. The terrace includes attached cast-iron railings with urn finials to the areas.
