Description
The Flask Public House is a public house rebuilt in 1874 by Cumming and Nixon. It is constructed of yellow stock brick with stucco dressings and has three storeys and cellars, although the roof is not visible. The façade features four windows and a three-window return on the north side. There are twin entrances situated between tall windows, which are flanked by three pilasters adorned with glazed tiles. Paterae are located over the pilasters at the frieze level. The first-floor windows have moulded segmental heads and enriched impost bands, while the second-floor windows feature a moulded sill band and are recessed within rectangular frames supported by corbels above gauged window arches. A moulded course runs along the parapet level.
Inside, the pub retains mahogany and glass partitions, bar fittings and counter, wall tiles, cast-iron fireplaces with tile surrounds, and moulded cornices. The partition screen in the lounge bar still displays Victorian chromolithographs. The rear of the premises was extended in 1990, during which a brick vaulted cellar was discovered.
