Description

The tomb of Karl Marx and his family is located in Highgate Eastern Cemetery. It features a pedestal on a stepped base, topped with a large bronze bust created by Laurence Bradshaw in 1956. The bust is set on a rectangular marble pedestal that is inscribed with the words "Workers of all lands unite/Karl Marx" and includes an inscribed panel. The pedestal has returns, each with three projecting lugs, with the topmost lugs supporting sculptured wreaths.

Karl Marx, a political philosopher, arrived in London as a political exile in 1849. He passed away in 1883 and was initially buried about 100 yards to the south of his current resting place, which was established in 1954.
