Description
The Tomb of Harry Thornton is located in Highgate (Eastern) Cemetery and dates from around 1918. It features a grand piano sculpted from marble, which is positioned on a raised plinth surrounded by kerbing. The piano was originally designed with an open lid and a portrait relief on the music stand, both of which are now missing. The kerbing includes dies that have pyramidal caps. Harry Thornton was a concert pianist known for entertaining troops during the First World War; he passed away during the flu epidemic of 1918.
