Description
Numbers 51 to 55 are a group of three terraced houses built between 1807 and 1818, with later alterations and a late 20th-century restoration. The houses are constructed of darkened stock brick, with some later patching. The ground floors are faced with rusticated stucco, and Nos. 51 and 55 have rusticated facades. They are three storeys high, with basements. Each house has two windows.
The doorways have round arches; No. 53 features an architrave with fluted Doric columns supporting dentil cornice-heads and patterned radial fanlights above the panelled doors. The ground floor windows are also round-arched, with recessed sash windows featuring gauged brick flat arches. The first-floor windows of Nos. 51 and 55 are set in round-arched, shallow recesses with impost bands; the first-floor windows of No. 51 have architraves, while those of No. 53 have casements. Cast-iron balconies are present on all first-floor windows. The houses have parapets; No. 53 has a stuccoed second-floor sill band and a stuccoed parapet. The right-hand return of No. 55 is painted with early 20th-century advertising material.
The interiors were not inspected. Attached cast-iron railings with tasselled spearhead finials enhance the properties.
