Description

Numbers 1-7 Stone Buildings, along with the attached railings and lamp holder, are located on the north side of Lincoln's Inn. These buildings were constructed between 1775 and 1780, designed by Sir Robert Taylor for Nos. 1 and 2, and by P. Hardwick for No. 7 in 1845. They are built in a Classical style using stone.

The buildings rise to three storeys. Nos. 1 and 2 have three windows each, while Nos. 3-6 feature a total of 23 windows on the east elevation. No. 7 has five windows and acts as a pavilion at the end of the row. The basements are made of brick and are situated below a stone band at the ground floor. The ground floor is rusticated, with arched openings that include keys and voussoirs, along with impost bands. The windows are set in shallow ashlar recesses, and the doors are in shallow stuccoed recesses. There is a continuous plain band at the first floor level, along with a continuous sill band. No. 1 is distinguished by paired Corinthian pilasters above its entrance, while No. 7 features six engaged Corinthian columns. Above, there is a modillion cornice with a balustrade.

The south elevation of No. 7 includes pilasters that are coupled at the flanks. The west elevation, which faces the lawns, is similar to the east but has a symmetrical facade with 21 windows between pedimented end projections of five windows and one window on the internal return. There is also a wall sundial dated 1794.

The interiors have not been inspected. Notable subsidiary features include attached cast-iron railings to the areas, with No. 3 having a lamp holder.
