Description

Wychwood Cottage is a house that dates back to the 17th century and was formerly divided into two separate homes. The building has two storeys and features a timber-framed structure with plaster and a 20th-century tiled roof. It includes an internal chimney stack with a plain red brick shaft. On the ground floor, there are 2-light 19th-century casement windows with a single cross-bar, while the upper storey has small-paned 2-light casement windows located at a lower level on the north end, indicating that the structure has been altered over time. The entrance features a recessed plank door, and there is a single-storey lean-to with a pantiled roof at the north end. Inside, the timbers are exposed, showcasing straight primary braces and bisected studs on the ground floor. To the south of the chimney stack, the main beam and joists are visible, and a partition wall has been removed. The northern half of the cottage, which includes the chimney stack, appears to be an addition or replacement to an earlier, smaller house.
