Description
7 The Green is a Grade II listed building, originally a row of five cottages that have been combined into one house. It dates from the late 17th century and has a T-shaped form, consisting of one storey and attics. The structure is mainly timber-framed and rendered, topped with a thatched roof. At the north end, there is a small 19th-century colour-washed brick extension that jetties out in timber on the upper floor. Additionally, there is an 18th-century addition at the rear made of rubble flint and red brick, featuring a tiled mansard roof. The building has three chimney stacks, all with plain red brick shafts.
There are six small two-light casement windows with cross-bars, most of which are careful replicas of the former early 19th-century windows. The house also features three eyebrow dormers with two-light casements. The entrance includes a mid-20th-century plank door with wrought ironwork. Inside, there is exposed timbering, including a ground storey ceiling with a deep main beam and joists set on edge. It is said that the building was constructed by the parish as town houses.
