Description

The boundary wall to St Edmund Hospital and Nursing Home runs approximately 241 metres along the east side of Maynewater Lane. It dates from the 18th and 19th centuries and is constructed of kidney flint with random old red brick, except for a short section that has been rebuilt in red brick. The wall features rounded brick copings and is divided into about 64 short bays by simple brick pilasters. At the north end, there is a higher splayed corner facing Westgate, made of knapped flint with white brick dressings, which includes two segmental-arched doorways. The boarded doors are adorned with raised moulded pilaster strips.
