GV II

House, probably originally of Wealden type. C15 and later; C19 front, altered, with rear extensions, c1970. Timber-framed and rendered; slate roof with a paired modillion eaves cornice. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. 3 windows to the 1st storey and 2 to the ground storey, all C20 replacement sashes. Central C20 panelled door set in plain reveals with a blank semicircular fanlight over. INTERIOR: cellar with C19 flint and brick walling. The frame is in 2 bays with part of a 3rd. On the left, one bay, formerly jettied, with the remains of 2 medieval service rooms: main beam with a stud partition removed; indications of the position of 2 doorways; rough heavy wall-framing and joists. The associated open hall was replaced in the C17 and it is not clear how long it was originally. The ground storey ceiling joists are set on edge. No framing is exposed on the upper storey and the roof timbers have been replaced.
