GV II

A terrace of 3 houses. Early C19, but with a fragmentary earlier core. Timber-framed and roughcast rendered on front; rear in flint with red brick dressings. Old plaintiles to front slope of roof, slates to rear. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and cellars. 3 window range: 2 16-pane and one 12-pane sash to the upper storey and 3 larger 12-pane sashes to the ground storey, all in flush cased frames. 3 slightly recessed doors up steps in doorways with plain reveals, pilasters and dentilled architraves under flat cornice hoods. Nos 135 and 136 have 4-panel doors with raised applied panels and No.137 a 6-panel door with sunk panels. INTERIOR: Nos 135 and 136 have cellars with walling in flint, brick and stone, including in each a re-used Norman stone column. Internal timbers uncovered in No.136 during restoration included a number reused from the C16; framing had primary braces and bisected studs. The roofs are early C19 replacements with clasped purlins and a ridge-piece. No.135 has a chamfered tie-beam in the south gable with no indications of associated studding; the front wallplate has been renewed.
