Description
Gothic House is a 17th-century timber-framed and plastered building that was refaced in the early 19th century with white brick. The front features a parapet and cornice, and early 19th-century wings now enclose the original 17th-century structure. The building has two storeys and a three-window range on the front, with three-light casements that have "Gothic" pointed arched tracery in stucco architraves. There is a six-panel door set in plain reveals, topped with a flat hood on console brackets. An early 19th-century timber-framed and plastered wing extends to the south, featuring casement windows, while a white brick wing faces east, which includes French windows and a doorway with a semi-circular fanlight. The roof of the main block is tiled and hipped, while the other blocks have slate roofs. Gothic House is part of a group of listed buildings on Church Street, which includes the Parish Church of SS Peter & Paul and other listed buildings on Market Hill.
