Description

Merton House is an early 19th-century white brick house located at the north end of Church Street, facing south and effectively closing the view looking north along the street. The house has two storeys and features a three-window range with double-hung sashes that include glazing bars, set in plastered reveals. The central doorway and window are adorned with elliptical gauged brick arches, and the doorway also has a fanlight. The roof is slate, with a double-hipped design at the front, and it has paired brackets supporting the eaves soffit. Merton House is part of a group of listed buildings that includes the Parish Church of SS Peter & Paul and other listed buildings in Market Hill.
