Description
Nos. 2, 4, and 5 Westgate Street is a terrace of three houses, originally four, built in the early 19th century. The houses are constructed of white brick and feature slate roofs with a wide plain eaves soffit. There are three internal chimney stacks with tall rectangular shafts and slightly corbelled caps.
The terrace is two storeys high and has cellars, with a five-window range. The windows on the upper floor are 12-pane sashes set in plain reveals, topped with flat gauged arches and supported by projecting stone sills. On the ground floor, No. 4 has a small paned rounded bay window, while the other houses feature deeper 12-pane sashes. The doorways have semicircular arched brick surrounds with plain reveals; the former doorway to No. 3 is now blank as it has been combined with No. 2. The remaining doorways have six-panel doors with fanlights that include radiating glazing bars.
Inside, No. 2, which incorporates No. 3, is reported to have no original features exposed. No. 5 retains one original fireplace, which has reeded quarter-round pilasters and an architrave, along with a 19th-century cast-iron grate.
