Description

The Greene King Maltings, built in 1846, is part of the Greene King Brewery in Bury St Edmunds. The building is constructed of red brick, with flint and stone blocks incorporated into the ground and first storeys. It features a mansard roof covered in concrete plaintiles, and the south gable has render and mock timbering.

The exterior consists of three storeys divided into twelve narrow bays by red brick pilasters. The south gable is adorned with fluted bargeboards. The first storey has four louvred window openings, while the top storey features four semicircular-headed small-paned cast-iron windows, along with various blocked openings. A former central entry, which had an arched surround, is now blocked with flint and stone infilling and is framed by red bricks with blue headers that are older than the rest of the brickwork. This detail, along with the flint and stone on the lower storeys, suggests that there may have been an earlier core to the building. The interior has not been inspected.
