Description
31 Crown Street is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century, with 18th century and later alterations. It features a timber frame that is jettied, with rendered panels on the upper storey and roughcast on the ground storey. The roof is plaintiled and has a moulded eaves cornice.
The building has two storeys, attics, and a cellar. On the first storey, there are two windows, and on the ground storey, there are three windows, all of which are 12-pane sashes in flush cased frames. The entrance consists of a six-panel door that is accessed by three steps and features a wrought-iron handrail. The door has a moulded architrave and a small rectangular fanlight with vertical glazing bars. There are two gabled dormers, each with two-light small-paned casement windows.
At the rear, there is a range with twin gables that have plain bargeboards and three long 8-pane sash windows in flush cased frames. Inside the cellar, stone blocks support the base of an internal chimney stack. Although the timber frame is mostly covered, the junction of the frame with that of No. 32 can be seen in the attic.
